Vacancy Detail
Senior Quantity Surveyor
About you
You are already operating as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or you feel ready to step into that level properly. You are confident managing your own jobs, speaking with clients and taking control of the commercial side without needing constant direction.
You take pride in doing things properly. You are organised, detail focused and you understand how important it is to stay on top of costs, contracts and procurement. You are comfortable being office based with regular site visits and you like being close enough to the action to influence projects properly.
Location matters here. You will need to be within a sensible commute of Stevenage, ideally south of it so you are close to the live sites.
Your experience
You have a solid background as a Quantity Surveyor within construction, ideally working on projects around the £1M mark and above. You have already proven that you can handle multiple jobs at once without things slipping.
You understand the JCT suite of contracts including Minor Works, Intermediate and Design and Build. You are confident administering these contracts and protecting the commercial position of the business.
You have used COINS or a similar commercial system and you are comfortable managing procurement, reporting and cost control through it.
You have worked for a contractor in a similar sector, so none of this feels new to you.
What you will be doing with your experience
You will be running around five projects at any one time, each typically valued at £1M or more. You will take full responsibility for the commercial and procurement process across those jobs.
You will be involved from early stages through to final account. That includes procurement, managing subcontractors, valuations, variations and keeping a close eye on cost and margin.
This is not a role where you are hidden away. You will be in the office, on site, and working closely with the wider team to make sure projects run smoothly and profitably.
You will have the autonomy to manage your workload properly, while still being part of a team that expects a high standard.
About the business
This is a well established contractor with a strong pipeline of regional work. They have built a solid reputation for delivering projects consistently and maintaining good relationships with clients and subcontractors.
The team is experienced and commercially aware. There is a clear expectation that people take ownership of their role and deliver to a high standard, but without unnecessary layers or corporate noise.
The work is steady, the projects are realistic in size, and the environment suits someone who wants to get on with the job and be trusted to do it well.
